Positive liberty and 'totalitarian menace' The commonly held view of liberal called "conservative o neo-conservative" is that positive liberty increases the 'totalitarian menace' in a society. However, we may argue that this statement is controversial and relative. It could not be considered as general and valid for all the cases. In truth, three issues may be noted. First, the 'totalitarian menace' can not rely simply on a direct consequence of positive liberty. Secondly, the association of the higher and lower self concepts to positive liberty may mislead the sense of positive liberty itself. Finally, positive liberty on the contrary may be a powerful concept to increase freedom in society.
